ACUPUNCTURE (DRY NEEDLING) AND MASSAGE
WHAT IS DRY NEEDLING?
Dry needling has been researched for decades and targets musculoskeletal pain and movement issues.
The therapist uses slim and sterile needles, which are inserted into trigger points in your muscle or fascia (surrounds muscles).
This stimulates nerve impulses to the brain, releasing endorphins, which may induce instant pain relief, reducing muscle tightness and aiding injury management.
The process may only take a few seconds or the needles may need to be in place for up to 20 minutes.
The therapist may go back to move the needle further to induce a twitch response, which is thought to stimulate the trigger point, induce blood flow to the area and release the tension and pain.
For some one treatment is all that is required, others may need further sessions.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
You may feel more tired, have a small bruise or feel a little achy, which is normal.
Some initial tightness may also be felt.
Stretching advice will be given, in addition the use of heat may also relax the tissue further.
Any side effects (such as tiredness and deep relaxation, pain, nausea, dizziness and fainting) are short lived (24-36 hours).
If you experience any, it is important to stay well hydrated, don't do any intensive workouts for 24 hours and try not to sit in any one place for too long either.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A DRY NEEDLING TREATMENT (WITH MASSAGE)
On arrival you will fill out an intake form and then we will discuss your medical history / current issues / pain / injury. Some orthopaedic assessment of your range of motion will also be done. We will then discuss the proposed treatment and at that point any questions you have will be answered.
You may have some massage and myofascial release first to further assess exactly where the needles will be placed and how many are required.
Your first treatment may involve only a few needles to discover how you personally react.
Once the needles are in place there will be a period of rest for you, during which I may or may not stimulate the needles further to initiate further responses or twitches which is considered an indication of endorphin release and pain reduction.
Once the needles are removed you will be given some more light massage and stretching.
A final assessment at the end will indicate how successful it has been and further education will be given to you on the potential reduction of side effects, follow-up postural changes and stretches or exercises.

KINETIC CHAIN RELEASE

The energy levels of the body will increase dramatically as it becomes balanced again, which is why it’s been used by athletes of all varieties, from rugby players, swimmers to horse riders to enhance their performance.
